I am setting up a adaptive site prototype. It has a header that I made a Masterpage item. In different views though I cannot resize the item, of course. Am I correct in concluding that Masterpage content cannot be used with adaptive views unless it does not change size?
You can enable Adaptive Views on a master in the same way you enable adaptive views for a page.
