License propogation for non-admin users (Mac)

We installed Axure on our lab machines using an admin account; however the license does not propagate to the (standard) student user logins for those machines. Do you know the work around to keep it from asking license input and trial continuation for each user when the software initializes? I don’t recall an selection option during install that would set it up for each user on the machine… Can moving the license key to the shared user acct. folder fix this; if I recall we had to do something similar for Sketchup.

Thanks! Lee.

Hi Lee!

It sounds like you’ll want to use what we call the “Lickey” (license key) method. License keys, because they are named user keys, are usually distributed individually to the users to enter into the installed program. But you can also place a license key on the computer using the following method:

  1. Using a text editor like Notepad++ or TextMate, create a new file.

  2. Enter the licensee name and license key into the file, separated by a tilde character. Here’s an example:

Jane Smith~ABC123longlicensekeyetcetc

  1. Save the file and name it “lic.key” (without any other file extension).

  2. Distribute the lic.key file to the Axure RP install directory on each computer to be used by that licensee. (For example: the default install directory for Axure RP 7.0 on a Windows 7 64-bit machine is “C:\Program Files (x86)\Axure\Axure RP Pro 7.0”.)

If you’re going to be working with any Mac computers, there are a few additional steps (from step 3):

  1. In a Mac Finder window, open your “Applications” folder and locate the “Axure RP 7.0” item.

  2. Right-click on the item and choose “Show Package Contents”.

  3. Navigate to the sub-folder “/Contents/Resources”.

  4. Place your “lic.key” file in this folder.

Once you’ve done this, your students should be able to log in to the lab computers with their student credentials and then just open up Axure RP without being prompted to install the license information over and over.

Let us know if that works for you!
