Looking for the way to turn the layout grid on (the grey panels that go over the document)…been looking for it and just can’t find it…and looked t forums for it (no luck)

Do you mean something like this found in Sketch?
If so, I don’t know of way to do it in Axure unless you want to overlay a dynamic panel with grids and send to back when not using. That would be a real pain the butt and I wouldn’t recommend it.
Think I have confused what Sketch does and is not done in Axure - thanks for this and getting my head clear on it. So many Prototyping tools and the memory blurs after a while. Invision has there’s out soon too! Best: Daryl
Yeah there is a lot of competition for sure. We’re keeping a close eye on that new Invision app for sure.
Trying to use Axure as a graphic design tool is probably going to be a hard road to take.
I still think that the value of Axure asa tool is not in visual design or pixel perfection, but in its speed of demonstrating and testing out complex interaction ideas. So many apps are difficult to use because they were never thoroughly prototyped beyond some basic “happy day” screen flows. Different conditions, edge cases and states depending on other states don’t therefore get addressed properly until the build. At which point any hidden issues are difficult to fix.
