Using Screen Recording software, e.g. Hotjar, with axure mockups

#1

Does anybody have a work around?

I am trying to use screen recording software to track client behavior and experience with my mockups … but the software(s) will not work (the script I plug in from the recorder provider) as apparently all the screens made by axure are identified as “iframes”.

Has anybody had any success in getting around this “iframes” issue?

Thank you.

I think you should provide some more information. What device you are using and what is the screen recording app you are using. Otherwise no one can knows what alternatives to offer.

The only 3rd-party tool i have gotten to work without issue was UserSnap. Everything else I tried would result in broken recordings. Take a look: https://usersnap.com/features

If you’re experiencing issues with screen recording software not working properly with Axure mockups due to the identification of screens as “iframes,” there are a few potential solutions you can try:

  1. Use alternative screen recording software: If the current software you’re using isn’t compatible with Axure mockups, consider trying a different screen recording tool. There are several options available, such as OBS Studio, Camtasia, or ShareX, which may work better with Axure and properly capture your mockup interactions. Also check salesforce code review services for more information.
  2. Update the screen recording software: Ensure that you’re using the latest version of the screen recording software. Developers often release updates to address compatibility issues and improve functionality, so updating the software may resolve the problem.
  3. Adjust the recording settings: Explore the settings of your screen recording software to see if there are any options related to capturing iframes or embedded content. Look for settings that allow for capturing full-screen applications or specify recording areas, as these may help bypass the iframe issue.
  4. Seek support from the software provider: Reach out to the support team or community forums of the screen recording software you’re using. They may be able to provide guidance or offer specific workarounds for dealing with iframes in Axure mockups.
  5. Consider alternative recording methods: Instead of relying solely on screen recording software, you could try other approaches to track client behavior and experience with your Axure mockups. For example, you could conduct usability testing sessions with participants, record their screen using their own software, and ask them to provide feedback and insights as they interact with your mockups.

By attempting these suggestions or exploring alternative methods, you should be able to work around the “iframes” issue and effectively track client behavior and experience with your Axure mockups.

Something you can also try doing is to link to the direct HTML (or use pretty URLs) of the prototype. This will remove the prototype player which uses an iframe to enable some extra features.

You can remove the prototype player and link to the direct HTML by using the format below:

prototypeID.axshare.com/page_name.html

One possible workaround for the issue you are experiencing with screen recording software not working properly with Axure screens identified as iframes is to try a different screen recording tool. Some screen recording software may have better compatibility with Axure and handle iframes more effectively. Its worth exploring alternative options and checking for user reviews or recommendations from others who have successfully used screen recording softwares with Axure mockups.
