Variable resetting to 0 instead of keeping its value

Hello everyone, for some reason something that should be simple is not working. On the landing page, I click a button. That click sets the variable to 1. The click also takes the user to another page. The variable that was set to 1 should still be 1, but it goes back to 0. Is that normal?

I figured out the issue. I set the variable after moving to the next page. I changed the order, and it now works.
